Big City Boy

I will never deny the fact that I am a big city boy. I was born in Hong Kong and grew up there and Los Angeles. I love what the city has to offer. I love all the convenience. I love the variety of food that the city has to offer. I love Sushi, Curry, Chinese roast duck, and Korean BBQ. I love the different flavours of gelato. I love my Blackberry.

But.

I hate the big city traffic. I hate people walking around with their blue tooth headsets. I hate idiot drivers. I hate crowded places. I hate criminals.

Then again.

When I travel, I don't want to go to another big city. I want to go where I can relax. I want to go where I can sip my morning coffee in peace. I want to enjoy the silence and a world without any demand. I want to go where the air doesn't smell like exhaust. I want to go where I can bring my bike along. I want to go on a long ride without seeing another soul. I don't want to see wannabe trucks.

And Yes.

I am a Big City Boy. There is no denying of it.

Gym goers who don't like to walk

I don't understand the mentality of some of the people who go to the gym for work out. They look to me that they will only do their work outs in the gym and they try to do less when they are in the real world.

I have seen too many gym goers who try to find parking that are closest to their gyms. WTF? As if they are saving their energy for the gym and don't want to waste it by walking an extra 5 minutes. Last Friday, I took the elevator to my office instead of walking up 5 floor worth of stairs because I was tired and exhausted from a week of heavy activities. A gym goer at the elevator commented to me that 5 floors worth of stairs are hard to do. I always took the stairs because I want to get some exercise before I reach my office. For me, every chance that I could improve my aerobic capacity is welcome by me.

A lot people don't view walking is an exercise, but I love it. I love my car, but if the destination is close enough, I would love to walk it.

Of course, I prefer my exercise to be done outside. A walk in park beats a walk on the treadmill. A bike ride in the rain beats a ride on the exercise bike.

Why I think the Media sucks

The news media no longer report news. Instead they sensationalise a simple story because they want to sell more papers. They don't really care what they are going to do to other people, but themselves. I am mad because a Toronto Star reporter made a mountain out of a grain of sand. This particular reporter accused that Spherion's temporary staffing service was taking advantage of the unskilled immigrant women from Somelia. The reporter claimed the client, UPS, cheated these workers because they pay them $1 less than the permanent full time people and no benefit.

This reporter obviously didn't do her homework and just simply pick on an industry that she knew nothing about. She cared nothing about how her story is going to arouse people's emotion on thinking how the agency was ripping people off. At least this woman is working. She is not collecting a welfare check. She may not like her employment situation, but she may get a long term employment eventually. This is a capitalistic society. If she doesn't like the work Spherion offer her, she can always sign up with Adecco. It is her choice to make.

Doctor's order

I went to see my doctor today because I thought that I have poor circulation in my legs. He asking the questions to see whether I was diabetic. Then he checked my blood pressure. His early diagnostic is that I would be lacking sufficient of vitamin. He ordered a blood test and I will be going to the lab Wednesday morning. I also told him that stress I am going through right now. As my doctor, he ordered me to stay off alcohol for a year because it will only further bring me down. He told me that my body would not be better by adding more chemical into my body.

So, I will not be drinking any alcohol for another year. It will do me some good anyway. I probably will be shredding a few pounds as well.

To date or not to date

To date or not to date, that is the question. Since September, I have gone on a few dates with 2 lovely ladies. My first date after I got into the dating scene was with a 23 year old Scottish lady. She came to Vancouver in June with a work visa. She was great but there was no chemistry bewteen us.

I met another lady and she was slightly older than me, and she was full of energy. I went on 2 dates with her. She was a great woman, but I could not see her as a girl friend.

I am back on my own. It is better this way. I am just going to focus on my work and ride my bike. I may even trying to train for the Test of Metal.

My second ride with my single speed

Today was my second ride with the single speed. I took her out to bike shop because I needed to pick up bigger cog and a stem to complete her. I also put on a set of Hutchinson Chameleon tires and a longer stem today.

She was definitely a different beast. It was easier to ride with the new tires and a longer stem. The 16 tooth cog was a little taller than I thought it would be. I have to mash the gear, and I loved the sensation. I am a masher, not a spinner. The single speed totally fits my riding style on the up hill. I enjoyed every moment of it. Although my thighs were issuing warning signals a few times and I had to give in to their demands. Only time will make my thigh stronger again.

The bike was a blast to ride. I look forward taking her out tomorrow again. We will be heading out to Burnaby Mountain tomorrow for some off road fun!!!

I got head hunted!!!

I am usually the hunter, but today, I got headhunted!!! Well, a small recruiting firm called me with an opportunity in IT recruiting. I am not looking to move anyway. I have made a promise to my manager that I will stick with her through thick and thin. I am not going anywhere, but It is nice to get a call like that. It is an ego booster.

Again, I am not saying that I will never jump aboard another ship. but it will have to be one heck of an opportunity, like working for Norco or Rocky Mountain Bikes. If they asked me to work for them, I will ask when can I start?
