Career change
It has been a long time coming.
I left my long term and secured position with an Employment agency in 2015 because I was recruited to join an engineering consulting firm as their in house recruiter. It was a sweet gig but it didn't last long. I was laid off after 3 months because the company decided to downsize. Although I quickly found a new position, but it was only for 6 months. I was on income assistant for the next 6 months and was interviewed for a lot of jobs. I couldn't find anything and I was depressed. I was focusing on securing a position as an in house recruiter, and I soon realised that I may have better luck with jobs in Agency world.
Once I switched my focus, I was hired by an International Agency. I was hired to be one of the Talent Acquisition Specialists in their Vancouver office. The job didn't last. I was there for 5 months and I was let go because they restructuring.
After that, another agency offered me a position. The offer was insulting and the management had ridiculous demands. The working conditions was not great either.
Being 45 years old with almost 20 years of experience, I found that it has become difficult to find long term work. Most company want to hire people that are younger people and that is a fact. I don't have management experience and people don't want to hire a 45 years old front line worker.
It is time for me to go out and start my own and start my own business in recruiting. I had a fear of being successful or able to motivate my own self. I worked through those fears and gained my confident in working. I rather work on my own and start my own business. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy task, but at least I can be own boss.
